Genealogy Basics - How to Get Started  (Genealogy Classes)

Lori Rotterman, Chair of the Montgomery County Chapter OGS Education Committee and Dayton Metro Library Genealogist, will present a class on Genealogy Basics - How to Get Started.  In this class to be held on Saturday, June 14 at 1:30 p.m., you will learn about getting involved with researching your family history. The class will cover the basics of collecting your ancestor's information, how to keep track of what you find, and the resources available at the Library to help you along your journey.  You will also find out ways to learn more about doing your genealogy.
 
Join the group in Community Room 2-B at the Dayton Metro Library in downtown Dayton.
 
This class is free and open to the public.  No registration is required.

Death records can be a valuable resource for genealogy research, providing details about a person's life that may not be found in any other record.  Sue Mueller will talk about what death records are in the public domain and where to find them.  Locating and using death indices, certificates, and obituaries, in addition to cemeteries and funeral homes, with an emphasis on free online resources, will be the focus of Sue’s discussion.
